You Now need a Licence for Club100, but it’s Free!
Club 100 is an arrive and drive kart series with a difference. The club races on outdoor circuits around the country with the fastest fleet of rental karts in business. For years the club has been seen as the traditional stepping point for indoor racers wanting a little bit more speed.
The club has a few new things for 2020, including an all new junior championship. But the latest to be announced is the fact that you need an Motorsport UK licence to compete. Motorsport UK have had a lot of complaints recently about the new 2020 licence fees, with some being hit with a 50% increase over last year. But the good news is they won’t affect Club 100, as the licence is free!
The new K-X licence is specifically for Arrive & Drive series like Club 100. So far, the licence is restricted just to Club100, meaning you cannot go and race other series using it, at the moment! The licence will be required for the Sprint 60, Sprint, Endurance and Young Drivers Championship. Series like BUKC that use the Club100 kit will be unaffected by this, as well as other series run by the club. Club100 will be paying the fees for the licence, so there is no charge to the driver.
The licence may be free, but there are a few benefits that licence holders can take advantage off. They include discounts at Halfords, Power Maxed, RAC and various other brands. Even offering £100 cash back on Pirelli tyres and access to Motorsport UK’s monthly magazine. Coming soon will be up to 6p per litre off diesel at BP, Shell and Esso. Applications are being managed by Club100, with forms being sent out once you have registered for their championship.
The ‘downsides’ for drivers will be that helmet mounted cameras will no longer be permitted in the championships. It also means your race gear will be subject to scrutinising before your allowed to race, so maybe get out shopping!
